When you started to try to get pregnant and it didn’t happen when did you seek treatment and how did you? Of course we are new to this and my obgyn thinks that I am perfectly fine but I have a sinking feeling that something is off… Do I wait the year to be considered infertile or do I press the subject???
And yes, I am aware that I am super impatient.

There are a lot of factors to consider, including your age, whether or not fertility treatment would be covered by insurance (if you have it), whether or not you feel comforted or stressed by seeking additional medical information, etc. When we first ttc, we decided to go to a reproductive endocrinologist right away because K wanted to maximize his time off of testosterone and we just weren’t sure what we might be up against. While going through all of the testing was stressful at times, it gave us a very clear picture of what we were working with and how best to proceed. If you’re concerned that trying for a year would be more stressful for you and you can afford to investigate with diagnostic tests, I say go for it. It was an empowering experience for us. I am super impatient too and a major type A personality. This is also the first time for me that I can’t make my goal happen. I started getting concerned fairly early on because all my friends got pregnant so quickly. But I didn’t go see my doctor until I temped BBT for 2 months (that was 9 months after stopping BC and 4 months of actively trying, 6 months where it was possible). I discovered that I was ovulating on CD20 of a 28-30 day cycle, so I was concerned about a short luteal phase and the possibility of poor quality eggs. My doctor was supportive and ordered tests. They all came back normal. Luckily my doctor was still sympathetic and referred me to the fertility clinic here. I think she mainly did it because there’s a 3-6 month waiting list so she knew that by the time I got in, it would be a year (at least since birth control). I am still waiting to get in and I don’t yet have a diagnosis of infertility. I suspect that I have endometriosis and a ob/gyn thought so too, but I’ve never had a lap to prove it. Some doctors will work with you before a year is up and some won’t even consider running tests until that year mark. I definitely know what it’s like to be incredibly impatient when you want something so badly and your body doesn’t seem to cooperate. kmfx for you!
